Patrick Dorsey All his life, Patrick Dorsey has been writing stories, starting when he began stapling crayoned pages together into books in the first grade.

Now, he helps others to tell their stories and get their message out.

As MIGHTIER THAN THE SWORD CONSULTING’S owner and principal consultant, Patrick Dorsey applies his twenty years of skill and experience as a business and technical communicator to every project he takes on. Believing not just that “words alone change minds and hearts” but also that “words are what present us to the world,” he helps his clients find the right words to best present and define themselves in print and online, fashioning the image that helps them best connect with their desired audience.

Whether training, reference, quality assurance, or marketing materials, he has designed print and online products for technical and non-technical audiences, internal and external users, and prospects. As both a contributor and manager, he’s produced materials for large and small companies across a range of diverse industries, including Anheuser-Busch, GKN Aerospace, TALX, and the US Postal Service.

He holds a degree from the University of Missouri--St. Louis, where he studied English and psychology, completing the university’s noted Writing Certificate program and graduating with high honors. It was while he was in college that he began fencing, an interest he continues to pursue as an instructor and as president of the St. Louis Fencers Club (hence “Mightier Than The Sword”) that’s also led him through the years to Kendo, Iaido, Kali/Escrima, and Aikido.

He confides, “As much as my sword training has polished me, between the two, I do believe words are stronger. They can shape the world more elegantly and effectively than the sword. Words form ideas and initiate change in a way that’s impossible for the weapon.” But he also adds with a wink, “The good part for me, though, is that when backed into a corner, if words don’t work, I still have the sword thing going for me.”
